The most obvious difference between a flued and a portable heater is that a flued heater is installed with a flue and is fixed in one location within your home. The flue takes the products of the combustion when the gas is burnt and expels them from the heater to the outside of the house.
A portable heater on the other hand can be moved from one room to another. Many homes with Natural Gas are fitted with gas sockets that are attached to either the wall or more commonly the floor. The heater is moved from one room to another by simply unplugging it from the gas socket and plugging it into another. A portable heater does not have a flue therefore the products of the gas combustion are expelled into the room in which the heater is working.
Flued and portable Natural Gas heaters come in two basic types, the radiant and the convector heater.

Convector heaters warm the room by blowing warm air into it via a high performance fan.
